GUEST POST: MummyAirmiles settles into Manhattan

Following an excellent journey to Manhattan, we checked in to Four Points by Sheraton hotel. I had booked using points earned when I took out an AmEx Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Credit Card last year. Spend £2,000 within 3 months and get 20k points. I then earned another 2,000 points via spend and bought 2,000 points for $40. I traded the 24k points for 2 nights at the category 4 Four points at 12k points a night in a king bed room. Good reviews had me reasonably optimistic. We were greeted by a very friendly and personable young lady who upgraded our room to a very high floor, city view.

She took time to explain and point out on a map nearby attractions. The hotel had a small restaurant and even smaller bar area, which we used as it was late (our time) and we were tired and not fit to go out and about. It was fine.

We slept well, and headed out. Bought a 7 day Subway card for $31 each which gives unlimited travel across the area and would see us back to JFK for the flight home. We took the subway to 14th Street and walked through Chelsea market , a bustling place of food stalls and cafes. We stopped and had breakfast – blueberry pancakes and lovely fresh orange juice. Then a short walk away to the HighLine, a walkway  renovated from an  old disused railway line. Very modern, pleasant, well tended plants – a very pleasant walk that ended at W 34 th Street.

We then headed to the Rockefeller Centre where we had a tour, which was very informative with lovely Art Deco architecture and decoration,  as well  a a trip to the Observation Deck for the views.

Great first day.
