I stayed at the Crowne Plaza last summer when I was on my wide-bodied jet tour with my Mum and was really impressed. When I knew that I would be in Madrid overnight this trip, I booked the hotel again. We had been offered an upgrade to a suite last time, but we declined as it didn’t have twin beds. I emailed the manager to thank her for the offer, and to ask whether we could take advantage of the offer on this trip, and she was more than happy to oblige.
We arrived after a very swift transfer in the free shuttle and were quickly checked in. I was greeted as a Platinum IHG Member and offered points or a drink (I took the points). The suite was in the corner of the first floor.
The room was huge! It has a really big bed, with a few comfortable chairs, a desk complete with minibar, tea tray and Nespresso machine. The bathroom had a separate toilet, his and her sinks, a jacuzzi bath and a rainfall shower that stuck out into the room like a glass tardis.
There were no coffee pods in the room, so I went back to reception to ask for some, as well as to enquirer about the Club Lounge. The receptionist told me that it was only for Spire members, so I showed her my Spire card on the app and she cut me some new cards to let me in.
It was nothing special, but we did appreciate the opportunity to get some more water.
I can highly recommend the hotel; the beds are some of the comfiest I have slept in, and the sound-proofing and black out curtains are so effective that you really need to set an alarm clock or you will be in danger of sleeping in!
We were the only people back to the airport on the 0830 shuttle and were quickly through and in the lounge for breakfast just after 0900.
Good to read about your various trips. When are you next jaunting off with your mum?

We will see – and when we do we will be sure to write about it! But given that I am travelling to Copenhagen, Vegas, Tallinn, Nice, Iceland and Washington between now and September I am not sure where I’d have the time!
