GUEST POST – MummyAirmiles returns home

After a couple of weeks away, it was time for my Mum and Dad to come home, so I thought I would finish the tales of MummyAirmiles. They were travelling on Emirates; SEZ-DXB-GLA.

We flew on a Boeing 777-200LR from SEZ-DXB. Cabin half full, and although my IFE system was a bit dodgy, and Dad’s earphones weren’t working it didn’t earn us an upgrade to the first class suites, which looked rather nice and I suspect are not full either. However, I am amassing rather a lot of skywards points that might be useful for an upgrade.

not that you can really appreciate it. View outside terminal as sun is rising.

The lounge was very quiet and almost empty. Nice secluded little sleeping areas complete with blanket and eye shades, for those with a long layover.

Variety of comfy seats. Dad not getting too comfy in case he falls asleep!nView of shopping mall, with first class lounge one floor below.

Have to say the long layover is a real drag especially at this time of night. Flight in at 0110 and flight out at 0750. If I was more clued up, I would have been in line for a cubby hole earlier. Will know for next time!

I like Dubai airport, it’s huge, clean, architecturally interesting and never feels frantic like T5 LHR. There is something about seeing huge numbers of Emirates planes in all sizes docked onto the terminals – very corporate. It even has a Starbucks and Costa, so that’s OK by me.

Dad is feeling rather chuffed as his Dalmore whisky is £20 more expensive in Dubai duty free than in the Seychelles. Should have got 2 bottles!

After a 7 hour layover, we headed towards the boarding gate, flashed boarding cards and walked straight onto the plane. Why does this never happen when flying BA? Dad had the venison, and I started with a tasty soup.

Biscuits and cheese was nice and plentiful. No alcohol as we are driving home – shame! The wine list looked good.

They made it safely home, and promptly booked a few days in New York for the end of August 2016 because it was a good deal with their Avios – clearly more to come from those two point-pursuing pensioners!
